Today, the Williams Institute began its release of Census Snapshot: 2010 Reports beginning with Hawai'i and Alabama. California, Delaware, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Wyoming will be released next week. Each snapshot report provides demographic and geographic information about same-sex couples and same-sex couples raising children for all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. More individual state reports will be released throughout the summer on a weekly basis.
Historically, US Census Bureau data on same-sex couples have been a critical resource for informing the many national, state, and local debates about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights. The Williams Institute has been a leader in disseminating and analyzing these data from Census 2000 and will continue to do so with the release of data from Census 2010.
