Despite receiving the most votes for Homecoming King at Mona Shores High School in Michigan, Oakleigh Marshall (Oak) was disqualified to claim the title as he is still listed as a female in school records.
Interesting enough, social media played a great role for Oak in garnering the majority of votes. He launched a page of Facebook and his friends have also put up a page in support entitled, "Oak is my King" with 533 members.
Although the outcome is disappointing, his story is a great example of how the world is changing and our youth are way more accepting of "difference and acceptance" than mainstream adults.
